Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

A tawny owl flew through our garden yesterday at about 9pm then into the woods. Then few minutes later back out of the woods and dived into the field. Must've clocked a rabbit.

Clearest we've ever seen it and first time in daylight. Massive wingspan.

The thing that surprises me when I see a barn owl for the first time in maybe a while is how white they can look; is that a gull is often my reaction. The first thing about a tawny is how big they can look. The first thing about a little owl is they aren’t cute but proper little fierce bastards if you get a decent view

Curlew seem to be doing well over in E Lancs. Loads of them out on the moors during Panopticons Ultra yesterday. Likewise skylarks.

After years of having squirrels and parakeets stealing the bird peanuts, we got a new feeder which the birds had difficulty using. We changed this to a different feeder with bird seed.

No squirrels and only the occasional parakeet. Great to have great/blue tits, sparrows and robins using it, although the greater spotted woodpecker hasn't returned. However, we now have two jackdaws instead who are very messy eaters so that most of the bird seed ends up in the lawn.

My dad had a bird table with a metal framework to stop big birds dominating and allowing little ‘uns in. The chaffinches were messy and dropped bits of seed to the collared doves waiting below. Everyone happy and fed!
