Lapwings yesterday and my first definite swallow of the year! I think I saw one a couple of days ago but a very fleeting glimpse and I'm not sure.

I was pleased to see plenty of chaffinches in Moray. Here in Bristol and surrounds, they seem to be scarce now.

LOL @Derby Tup😂 I downloaded the Merlin App today. Thanks for the recommendation! Quite fun to see it pick out the birds from the afternoon song-for-all we had going! |

We're seeing more chaffinches in the garden now than the last couple of years, although still not many, but I haven't seen one actually on the seed feeder at all, which is weird - they're pecking around on the ground below. I haven't had the chance to get one in my bins yet, but I'm fearing the reason might be that they have that claw deformation thing which was around some years ago, with the result that they would not be able to perch on the feeder. I hope not. I'll try to get a good view.

I had a very enjoyable Saturday, taking a boat trip to the Farne Islands and landing on inner Farne to see puffins, razor bills, guillemots, kittiwakes and eider ducks. Also caught a glimpse of a gannet as we travelled, but no chance of getting a photo. Here, have a puffin: It was a lovely way to get back into photographing UK wildlife after being spoiled by our trip to Botswana. |

Ended up herding a Muscovy duck and her five ducklings today as she was determined to walk them straight into the middle of the A628. Eventually persuaded her down the riverbank.
