Really good photos Um. How exciting - a redpoll. Was trying to ID a bird last week that might’ve been one but couldn’t get close enough.

There’s clearly a very healthy population of red kites in Yorkshire. On the stretch between the A61 junction for Ripon and Wetherby racecourse (20miles??) I saw half a dozen this morning including a couple circling some roadkill (looked like a badger 😢) - definitely too busy for them to risk their own lives at 9.30am.

There is a big population of Red Kites at Harewood House that was the initial release site 20 years or so ago. When my daughter was a student living in a flat in Headingley we would often see them from her window. She still lives near Leeds and we see at least one on every trip either from the M1 or her garden.

Yes - I live a few miles from harewood (and work out by the A1/M1) and there are tons of them. I see several most days.

A starling nesting next door to us is very keen on (and good at) buzzard impressions (we do get real buzzards mewing over the garden occasionally). The other one we hear a lot is green woodpecker mimicry.
