High Cup Nick for us today. Plenty of curlews, a few grouse, many wheatear and a single swallow sat on the wire in Dufton. It must have been wondering what it’s doing here on a day like today!

No swallows here yet, sadly. They were a real feature last year and I'm hoping they come back.

Wasn't far from HCN. Loads of lapwings on the moors, didn't notice any curlew. Plenty of other smaller moorland birds that I'm typically terrible at IDing.

Why don't my blackbirds sing? We have plenty blackbirds visiting the garden but never hear them singing. At the campsite at the weekend they were the loudest bird first thing in the morning.

RR, when the sun comes up an 3am and you're trying to sleep, you might be glad they don't sing
