Heinzster, horrible feeling, I sympathise. First time I ever killed a bird with my car I was on my way back home from RSPB Titchwell, which made it all the more painful.

Think it was the light. I work with colour and saw a flash a bit like classic I think that was a kingfisher moment. I made a mental note to check it back at the hotel

It looks like it's shaping up for a good nesting year in the garden. I believe we have great tits and blue tits nesting in 2 of the chambers of a 3 chamber sparrow box (no sparrows here, alas!), and other blue tits have got the surveyor in to look at another nest box next to my office window. We also have the usual dunnocks nesting in one of the hedges and blackbirds in another. Out the front, we have blackbirds nesting and I think robins, too, and most years we also have wrens nesting, but haven't checked whether they're around yet.

Just seen a heron trying to fish in a flooded field. It’s been flooded for months so trying to work out if it’s either confused or going to get lucky. If the latter I’m thinking more likely to be something of the ilk of frogs or similar as it’s nowhere near any watercourse.

Enjoyable day spent at Minsmere. Don't come here too often but really should.

We were there last week and were so impressed we joined the RSPB on the spot. Have seen a Cetti’s Warbler today, heard several over the last few days but saw one finally. Not so lucky with the bitterns, booming all day (we’re in Norfolk now) but keeping well out of sight.

For all the noise they make, Cetti's warblers are very hard to see! Evolutionary advantage to this, of course - if you're singing that loudly, predators will find you, so best be a dull brown colour and keep well out of sight in the bushes.

Someone found an oystercatcher dead on the beach in Findhorn and it was ringed. They sent the ring to BTO to find out that the birds was 26 years old.

Heron the canal today and a pair on the Derwent.

First duck fluffies of the year as well 😍🦆

And the usual little grebes which look like ducklings at first glance.

We heard a cetti in the garden today J2R but not seen.
