Woke this morning to what I'm pretty certain was a lovely wren song.

Wren was hoping about in the garden this morning 😎

We went to the local quarry (disused) to see if we could see the peregrines but no joy. Just a buzzard. Might have been too windy.

Curiously on my run I went through what I think a long forgotten quarry and disturbed what I thought was a kestrel and did wonder if somewhere else it would be a perfect place for peregrines.

There’s a Peregrine on St Michael’s church spire in Dumfries. I saw him on Saturday. As far as I can recall, this will be the third year we’ve had a nest there.

Red Squirrel
I heard a series of unusual noises this morning and looked up into a tree to see a jay mimicking a cat - v realistically, it then did a series of tuneful calls, one of which sounded like a parrot. All the woodpigeons in the surrounding trees didn't bat an eyelid. Makes a change from the jay's normal strained caw. I've not heard a jay mimicking before.

Red Squirrel, I've been caught out by jay weirdness before. Wondered what on earth it was.

A couple of days ago, running in the local park, I heard a blackbird doing its full summer song and it confirmed for me what I've long thought, it is my favourite of all bird songs. So melodic, so redolent of warmer weather. It's a joy to hear it again after months of blackbird silence (well, apart from alarm calls, that is).
