Markings look like starling, could they have been predated by a larger bird then accidentally dropped? No idea other than that. Very sad 😢

I think they do look like starlings but not 100% sure. Are there a lot of cats in your area, Dio? In my area there's also the possibility of fox predation too.

Starlings. They usually nest high up, in holes, so less likely to be cats or foxes. Woodpeckers would. However, it's odd that a predator (other than a cat) would kill them and not eat them.
It could be the nest collapsed in some way, or another bird (a different species, possibly) wanted to use the nest space and cleared it out. Or even, they had died in the nest (heat, starvation, poison) and the parent (or another bird) had cleared them for another attempt.

Cleared from the nest I would say. Either by parents as they died, or by another bird.

It’s that time of year sadly. Adults who raise and fledge young successfully are amazing. I’ll never forget ‘my’ great tit family fledging during the original 2019 lock down. One of the young nearly flew into me

There were a group of rooks about lately making lots of noise. It’s odd that they’re starlings because that’s a common bird I don’t see very much around here. We don’t get them in the garden.

They might be too big for starlings, re-reading your first post. I didn't think they were black enough for crows, but now I am wondering.
Rooks usually nest communally?
If they are crows then it could have been a bird, a blown down nest or human interference. Could they have been jackdaws in a chimney?

They look too young to be starlings of that size - 4 inches would be pretty much adult size, I wonder about jackdaws or rooks
