Yesterday I spotted a wren's nest in our wisteria. We have had some in previous years but they seemed to be bachelor nests. Today it is torn apart and there are at least 4 broken eggs on the ground. I'm blaming magpies, but have no real evidence.

First Cuckoo’s of the year heard over the weekend in Eskdale and Wasdale. Plus Garden Warblers also heard around the NT campsite in Eskdale.

Cuckoo (heard then saw) less than a mile from where I saw my only previous cuckoo 12 months ago, many lapwings, curlews, possibly a distant owl and another bird of prey escorted off the premises by a crow, among an array of smaller moorland birds, three hares and a weasel on tonight's run. And a nursery of herons on the way there. More importantly, the little birdwatcher also reported one egg on the woodpigeon's nest. |

raptorpersecutionuk.org This and the accompanying link to the list of 70 Hen Harriers that have 'disappeared' in areas connected with Grouse shooting makes me unbelievably angry. And that's before we get into the whole subject of the legalised 'brood meddling'. I'm not going to say what I'd like to do to the individuals involved in the Grouse 'industry' as ironically that would probably make me liable to prosecution....🤔 but it does highlight the sort of backward imbeciles that exert power in this country in a way that is designed to fulfill their own needs with a complete disregard for everyone and everything else! |
