Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Two robins engaging nicely on the magnolia tree and the resident wren hopping around in her usual location round the shed, feels spring like with the activity

After a couple of posts last week or so, I’ve got a massive buzzard flying high above Billingham. I’ve seen them regularly enough at a country park a couple of miles to the north but it feels so out of place above an urban landscape.

Like the previous posts, buzzard felt like a treat in the Lakes or RSPB reserves etc when I was younger.

Yep. 2 buzzards sat on street lights that illuminate the main dual carriageway between Windsor -> Slough this morning!!

Skylarks in the fields along the Thames path earlier this week too.

Near here there’s a spot known as Staines Moor that’s really sandwiched in between the M25, Heathrow and urban dullandia. In recent years a number of short-eared owls have been stopping over in the winter time. They reckon 7 or 8 were here last Feb. Headed down there earlier this week and got great views of one. Also a Marsh Harrier. It is absolutely incredible to me how nature finds a way.

Off to the Lakes on Sunday. I expect to see less there!

Lots of photos of swallows less than 50 miles south of us but I haven’t seen any here yet - maybe this week (there seems to be a plume of warmer air coming our way midweek).

@Curly45 let’s hope it survives LHR expansion. The 3rd runway won’t be near it but there’s a chance that the expansion of some other transport services will impact the Moor.
