Seems too cold for swifts here at the moment but I'll keep an eye out.

I've heard tawny owls hooting in the late afternoon a couple of times in the last few days, which has surprised me. I've heard distant cuckoos a couple of times too.

I tend to think first week of May for swift. They’re going late July too. Today is first day I’ve seen more than the odd swallow

Just had a small bird of prey swoop low over the garden path and off into the school field beyond.
Suspect sparrowhawk but only saw from the back

No Swifts, Swallows or House Martins for me. Despite the higher temperature of 10c this morning the rain cast a chill over everything.
Did have my first Lesser Whitethroat singing and the usual couple of Cettis. Also Whitethroats already seem settled in nesting habitat.

We’re still in the NE and there’s been a big move of hirundines in last day or two. It great to see and hear swallow and house Martin in numbers. Lots of linnet here, which we just don’t see at home. A few of our group went for a swim this morning and I ‘held the towels’. Three sandwich tern were fishing just off shore; a fantastic sight

First Garden Warbler today along with Chiffs, Willows and Blackcaps on the edge of the North Yorks Moors but still searching in vain for my first Redstart despite it being a perfect location.

A long eared owl flew across the road in front of me on my cycle into work this morning. It sat in a tree for a while, then got fed up of me watching it and took off again. It was a good way to start the morning though.
