Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I definitely get the feeling we've been getting more greenfinches in the garden, up from a low point about 3 years ago. We also get jays on a very regular basis, in our suburban garden in an area with lots of mature trees. No house sparrows, though, ever. Our commonest birds are blue tits, great tits and goldfinches.

No willow warblers for me yet, and don't expect one for another week or two, but you never know.

There’s loads in Cyprus - they are on the way. Youngest is doing his dissertation on bird migration and is currently sitting in Cyprus counting them!

Nice red kite over football pitches in Peterborough. Maybe believing players taking a dive were genuine carrion 😅

Had my eardrums blasted yesterday by a Cetti's warbler opening up about 3 metres away from me. Shockingly loud. Even saw the little fella, which is unusual.

Another day another goose attack, and for the first time one that left me genuinely unnerved.

I ran past a pair sitting on the far side of canal from me - no nest, eggs or youngsters in sight and I wa a good distance away from them. But as I drew level, one of them leapt out at me, chased me along the towpath for about 50 yards (I wasn't hanging around but my word geese can run quickly!) and then flew at my head trying to peck at my face. I'm not scared of geese but when they are at eye level and a couple of inches away it's a different matter! They are also really Quite Big when they flap 😮

The rest of the run was a chilled out affair full of mipits, skylark, golden plover, oyk and redshank. I went the wheatear way but no luck yet...
