A chance encounter with an eagle in the Dales is something special.

Last summer I found a WT Eagle on the moor above Howden Reservoir in the Peak District. I wasn't aware it was there and was just out running. Gave me quite a surprise!

As with the Dales one it was one of the IOW birds having a wander. It hung around for a few weeks. The year before the same bird had taken a break on the North Yorkshire Moors.

How wants to be down south when they can holiday in the Dales or Peak? Bright birds those eagles

It’s like back to mid-March here today. Two singing chiffchaff and a dipper on this morning’s walk. Still no blackcap, never mind a hirundine

I think this is a GP tracker of his flight plan from last week.

A bit smaller than an eagle, but I’m excited to see lots of nesting behaviour going on with our semi-resident sparrows in the nest box over our garage door.
I have a good view from my office window and there’s been lots of bits and bobs being put in there.

Thanks DT - I’ve just had a good chance to observe male and female on the bird feeder, and there’s no sign of a black cheek patch on the male, so I think they’re house sparrows.

They have been our most regular garden visitors since we moved here, so it’s lovely that they look like they’ve trying to raise the next generation here.

Chestnut cap on the male’s head is the thing. Tree sparrows tend to be localised but always fun to look. They have different ‘chirps’ too, believe it or not. There’s a colony at RSPB Blacktoft Sands on way out to Hull. Nice little birds

Couple of ravens gave us the low-level once-over on tonight's run. Despite some evidence to the contrary, it would seem we aren't quite carrion yet and they soared off to look for tastier morsels.
