I was really pleased to get eyes on a Chiffchaff yesterday. I often find I can hear them but can't see them. I took binoculars on our day out and followed the song to spot the bird.

Startling new tick on my local riverside run today, a glossy ibis! Stopped to chat with couple who had a 'scope trained on it and invited me to take a look. Apparently it's been around a couple of weeks, but I've not been following the local bird news.

My son is studying in Leeds. He drives an asda van at weekends, and yesterday he phoned, very excited, as he had seen a huge (no, really massive, enormous) bird on his route in the Dales. He is convinced it was an eagle, he said it was much larger than a kite or buzzard. What do you reckon the odds are?

Perhaps it was a peeking duck DT; from behind its swan friend.

First wheatear of the year tonight on a recce of the Orchan Rocks race route. Flushed a female out of a stone wall into the rain. Given the time and weather I assume she'd settled down somewhere dry for the night until we disturbed her. Sorry! |
