Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Forgot to post last week, I saw a large bunch of swifts (probably 40ish) flying together very high up. It was the screaming that alerted me, I would never have spotted them otherwise. I did wonder if they were beginning their return migration, but they circled the neighbourhood for a few hours.

Funny you should mention Swifts getting ready to go, the local ones here seemed to be gathering up last Friday ready to go, had seen and heard them daily for weeks on end, today, no sign.

The singing has definitely quietened down in recent weeks. Case in point - I saw, without hearing, a sedge warbler today. It's normally the other way round.

So, as it's August, I suppose that depressing countdown until the departure of the swifts has to begin. Saw plenty today, August 2.

A local blogger is reporting plenty of swift heading south over last few days

Recent sightings: a peregrine, a pair of stonechat and last night a tawny owl sitting on top of a telegraph pole

I'm now on lookout. Don't know what all our new tress are, but definitely a couple with berry potential ๐Ÿ˜€

Blackbirds are busy stripping the unripe rowan berries in my garden; so no waxwing winter for me.
