FF, same thing happened to me once in North Wales. They are astonishingly well camouflaged.

Fruitless search around the ponds for the kingfisher again today, but was rewarded by a couple jays and an unruly gang of LTTs.

Indeed J2R, I never saw anything until it moved and it was very silent in its departure as well.

Excited call from Youngest to report seeing a green winged teal - it’s brilliant to watch him get so excited

I’ve not seen one for a couple or three years. There’s a wood near us that looks big enough and old enough to hold woodcock but in spite of spending some time looking out for them roding on spring evenings I’ve been unsuccessful

The surprising thing about this one DT was that it was in the open in a shallow ditch in some very rough pasture albeit not very far from the edge of the woodland. Mind the vis was so poor it might as well have been dark!

We saw one in the Strid Woods once at Bolton Abbey standing in the open on a path. Great close up views. Weird that a bird that is thought of as so secretive etc can occasionally be much more relaxed

Very little to note on this mornings walk. About best I can manage is a heron. I forgot to post last week I saw a male sparrowhawk carrying prey very closely

No vis here to see much of anything but there is something special in hearing the wigeon whistling away in the murk. Definitely a seasonal marker.

A fellow park volunteer posted a vid on Facebook of a snow bunting, seen at a local estuary (Severn Beach). He thinks it might be a youngster which hasn't really encountered people since leaving cold climes; due to the fact that it was pecking around v close to walkers and their dogs.
