I say buzzard, too. Buzzards can 'hover', remain stationary in the sky, albeit not quite in the same way as kestrels do. And they can be remarkably varied in their plumage.

Little flock of siskins on my country walk on Sunday, the first I've seen in ages. We didn't get any in the garden last winter, as far as I recall, when we normally do (probably the winter was too mild and they didn't need to come in from the country to suburban gardens for food).

The house martins seem to be getting quite feisty at the moment. We've had them seeing off buzzards and kestrels over the last few days.

bonners
Fairly certain a couple of gannets been dragged into the coast by the winds tonight, absolutely massive wing spans with black tips, but not much in the way of colour, but I'm guessing they lose their colour a bit after breeding season?
Also a large number of terns dragged in. Not too sure what type, looked like sandwich terns, but the cry was a bit higher.

Didn't have binoculars, but the sea was dramatic with loads of gulls dancing above the waves.

Amazing to see the seafront kestrel hunting in that wind, it seemed to be angling down to try and stay steady.

The guys who watch our local reservoirs will be delighted. Kittiwake or turnstone? What’s it to be?

Pretty sure wasn't kittiwakes, they're a bit smaller and dumpier, these were huge. Going to keep an eye on the local groups to see what has been spotted, maybe the waves were making them look bigger. Only seen gannets once before near The Orme.

Sorry - what I was saying is kittiwake and turnstone have turned up on local Pennine reservoirs a hundred or so miles from the coast following stormy weather

I’d think if your birds looked like gannet they would be gannet bonners
