Been to visit my parents for first time in 4 months today 😊 They live in the lakes near cockermouth with an amazing garden with a stream and a small orchard. Recently they have seen a barn owl, kingfisher, a hare and think they have a badger run along the stream. Didnt see any of them today but using the BirdNet app, heard a lot and I got a first sightings for me and a few firsts for them (after 15 years loving there and I had 10 years living there) My first chiffchaff, treecreeper, goldfinch, song thrushes, swallows, house Martin's, chaffinchs, house sparrows, curlews flying above, blackbirds, wren. I also saw a barn own on the drive home. |

Thanks Tinebeast - here's one I took ( a few years) earlier, taking a rest. Also not in UK! Squirrel, LSW and long-tailed tit here this morning. (as well as the robins, blue & great tits, goldfinches, chaffinches, starlings and assorted 'brown sparrow types') |

A silent Oyk! Come on DT, that's like a celibate Dunnock or a peace loving Coot! Bit of a special one for me yesterday that is not likely to be repeated in a hurry. Got a really good look at a Rosy Starling https://www.google.com/search?q=rose+starling&sxsrf=ALeKk01UJzmrTHXM4PFGDzeV2qpseUj3uQ:1592729881775&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=ETxajZ0fvDdrmM%253A%252C02HXzNc2Zk-01M%252C_&vet=1&usg=AI4_-kRNZ3Rk9JWvkIC-_uM75SJWZlLbYQ&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjZ4s2WxZLqAhW7QxUIHTBkCDgQ_h0wE3oECAgQBQ&biw=1600&bih=740#imgrc=ETxajZ0fvDdrmM: , absolutely stunning bird that should be somewhere in the 'Stans' of Central Asia. This one though was near Wetherby. They are one of those birds that has periodic irruptions in the UK and we seem to have one at the moment with several birds appearing across the country (there was one between here and Derby last weekend but it had disappeared when I went for a quick look). Yesterday's bird rounded off a nice days birding at St Aidan's and Fairburn reserves that included a brief sight of a Bittern and lots of Spoonbills but sadly no sighting of the Cattle Egret or Black necked Grebe that are both at Fairburn (annoyingly the Egret was reported twice at spots we'd been at 20 minutes earlier!). |

Apologies the link to some pictures doesn't seem to have worked properly but well worth googling Rosy Starling to see what it looks like.
