Chrisity directed me here to share my hummingbird video! (I don't know how to embed, and I hope this works)
I live in east Pennsylvania in the US, and Mrs. Ruby-Throated Hummingbird visits the sugar nectar feeder daily. Here's she's inspecting the electricity wiring. Possibly she wants to grab some spiderwebs to glue her nest together. Enjoy!

And this is a recent picture of her at the feeder. I'm an arm's length away! share.icloud.com

Wow. It seems to move more like a hoverfly than a bird.

Oh, thanks for sharing that :)

The recent rain has brought out the invertebrates and thus the birds
This morning's run - in just 5k around the fields
Starlings everywhere, swallows and house martins over the corn fields, green woodies, family of GSWs, pied and grey wagtails, skylarks, red kite, buzzard, Cettis and something I haven't spotted here before: a read bunting :)

Glad you all like it! They really hum, and sound like a bumblebee on steroids (the video doesn’t capture that), with a little “tjik” thrown in every now and then- you can hear that. She def. hovers, and can fly backwards!! And the acceleration on these tiny birds is AMAZING, as is their maneuverability, both in flight and in hover mode. (I’m starting to sound like a car salesman, I know!)

She must have a nest nearby, this morning she picked up some milk thistle fluff. Hoping to see the little ones come visit soon, that would be even cooler!

In other bird news, I think the mocking bird was giving a phenomenal concert this morning. I’m still getting used to all the new birds and their sounds here, only lived in the US for about 7 years and not a lot of time for birding...

sat in the garden just now, listening to two song thrush vying to be the last bird singing and watching the bats - when I spotted the most enormous stag beetle flying over the honeysuckle :) - can't remember the last time I saw one of those!
