Two trips out yesterday. First, something I've been meaning to do but have never got around to before, a dawn chorus run. I was out of the house before 4am, did a 5 mile run up and around my regular daily river valley patch, and it was amazing - so many birds out and about, and so loud! One thing which was odd for me was how differently the familiar landscape is being used when there are no humans about. The street outside my house had lots of blackbirds hopping around, the local park was covered in lesser black backed gulls. Also there were loads of swifts over the river, where I don't recall seeing many before (nothing to do with humans there, though).
Then in the afternoon, a trip to a local nature reserve which I've only visited a couple of times before, for a fabulous display of dragonflies and damselflies of all different types. Also heard (and saw!) calling cuckoos - don't recall ever hearing them this late in the year before.

Think I saw a leucistic pigeon on my run. Complete white body and wings but grey head still.

Hadn't noticed Fairburn Ings has reopened. Might need a trip over seeing as we are due some nice weather
Trying to do some work, but just seem to be watching the house martins swoop in and out of our eaves and the poor buzzard being continually mobbed by the jackdaws (who will have loads of energy as they've emptied the peanut feeder).

I love Barn Owls. Has been a rather spectacular day and that just got it off to an amazing start.

I've had a goldfinch visiting my birdfeeders for the last two days. It's the first time in around 10 years I've seen one in the garden. Hope he brings his mates.
