Super birding experience this evening. We have a local mistle thrush who does a decent curlew impression. He’d been banging it out all evening on and off when suddenly a real curlew flew over calling as if you say this is how you do it properly :-) I heard two notes and thought that’s a real curlew before looking up to see it overhead but moving away quite quickly :-)

My friend went back to the heath last night with his telescope for a bit of stargazing and just before it got dark he filmed the bird (it was on the platform at the top of the transmitter)
Fairly sure it is a peregrine, he's put a film on his facebook feed but I can't share it.
I know where to go for one of my runs next week now, anyway :)

I visited the Peregrines on the mill at Belper the other day and got great views of what I think was the male, such stunning birds. They seem to have an active nest which is a major bonus this year after the original male was shot and subsequently died from it's injuries back in early March, fortunately a young male that came from a brood at Derby Cathedral moved in very quickly to take it's place.

Glad that you've got a better clue on the ID Rosehip. My revised possible ID obviously wrong!
