Well I haven't been back to Norway since lockdown but I see a lot of waterfowl here in NL. Grey heron, tufted duck, mute swan, great-crested grebe, greylag geese feral geese, mallard, coots, moorhens, herring, black-headed, a few common and lesser black-backed gulls. I think I photoed an Emperor goose on its way through on 10th March. Oystercatcher once, and my mrs thinks she saw a common snipe.

Swifts are here now DT. We've given them directions for "over the hill" so sure they'll be there soon.

Using our new found freedom in Wales I had an interval session on the industrial estate and saw a hovering kestrel. Plenty of prey for iti in the undergrowth. Then went for a walk on the beach a couple of little plovers and plenty of Dunlin flitting around. Gorgeous evening.
Still swiftless.

This is sitting in one of the trees in front of the bungalow at the moment. It did seem to be chasing a magpie around the trees.
1. Is this a long eared owl?
2. Was the magpie trying to do damage to its young / its eggs?

Fantastic photo of a LEO. That’s made my day
And yes possibly the magpie was up to mischief or could have just been unhappy with a predator on its patch. It’s not uncommon to see angry corvids mob raptors, which aren’t really a threat to they. It’s kind of hard wired in I think

HF? I’ve just remembered - young LEO have a characteristic call described as a ‘creaking gate’ sound iirc. It might be worth listening out for this in the coming weeks
I’ve never knowingly seen one but there is a wood we go to sometimes where work was done to encourage breeding
