Enjoyed watching a pair of GSWs playing chase in the bare oak canopy at the end of the farm track yesterday morning. So agile and playful.
The track hedgerow had at least 5 robins, several blackbirds, blue tits, great tits and a low flying buzzard. In the end field there were redwing. I realised this has recently become close to my "normal" for a winter morning walk π

I have only ever seen on green and one great spotted woodpecker. Both while visiting friends in SE England. A few GSW now in Wicklow, none in NI. I had also never seen a molehill until I was in my late 30s as moles don't live in Ireland. Still Patrick must have thought they were snakes βοΈ

sodding molehills! - I injure myself tripping over frozen ones in the dark more than any running or other activity!

I think green woodpeckers must have become a lot more common. I remember my excitement at seeing them a couple of decades ago, but I see them very often nowadays. Sometimes I think this kind of thing is down to getting better at spotting a particular bird, but green woodpeckers are so bright, and so loud and distinctive in their call, they don't require a lot of skill in spotting.

Maybe we need to start a map of where we all are so we can compare what we are seeing where!
