Fragile Do Not Bend
I’m in the southeast and green and GS woodpeckers are pretty commonplace in the countryside here. I’ve heard lots of drumming in the last week or so. I’ve not seen any raptors other than sparrowhawks and kestrels near home though.

Entirely possible I’ve seen and heard one and not realised. The buzzard’s call sounds like some sort of a sea bird to my ears, which are pretty rubbish at bird call IDing. If I’ve seen one silhouetted against the sky I’d probably have thought it was a crow.

Signs of spring. GSWs have started drumming here in the last few days. One either side of the house both within 100m, though tbh I've never managed to fully establish whether it's two different territories who just two different drummin sites for a single bird. Also heard another this morning a mile or so away.

That's only sighting no 2 this year, she pops up just when I've been getting worried about her
[she's known as Barnadette and has been alone - as far as we know- since her mate was killed by a lorry on the A1 a couple of years ago. Of course I can't tell one barny from another - so this might be a new one by now!]
