![]() I saw something I couldn't ID whilst walking the dog at about 7 pm last evening. Over frozen fields and windy but dry. Something owl-shaped, smaller than a barn owl and darker kept appearing just across the edge of my torch (chest torch) beam. Calling sounded a bit like a kestrel, but it wasn't a kestrel. |

They are very territorial and diurnal ie not just nocturnal like tawnies and LEO. Keep em peeled whenever you are in the area. They’re great ‘perchers’ and love sitting on fence posts and hedge tops. There were several territories all around our old manor but I’ve not seen one here in a year ![]() |
