I love seeing Sparrowhawks. They’re so elusive so to see one is a treat. We occasionally get fly pasts around us, plus we’ve had two confirmed kills in the garden (I’m not sure what else would’ve done that to the pigeons). We got home from the local nature reserve about a month ago, I went into the back garden and saw one perched in next doors garden. Plus I saw one flying away from a local school on this mornings dog walk 😀
I went out for a headtorch run round where we usually walk the dogs just after dark this evening and disturbed a Muntjac 😀 The headtorch picked up a few glowing eyes but I couldn’t get close enough to work out what they were.

The only sparrowhawk "sighting" here was just an unexpected explosion and raining of pigeon feathers - similar to what happens when a pigeon misjudges crossing the road in front of a lorry!!
Getting worried about "my" barn owl, was the perfect evening for her and no sight at all, most unusual

My local grey wags seem to disappear in the winter. I know they aren't migratory, but I suspect they head downstream to somewhere a bit warmer for the coldest months. The same thing seems to happen with the kingfishers.

I had a busy lawn this morning, squirrel digging up nuts, crow likewise, green woodpecker probing for ants and a woodpigeon pecking at the weeds. All at the same time.

Had a quick visit before work back to see (try to anyway) the foxes again. No foxes there but there was a male and female kestrel flying around us and landing on the lampposts. Poor light but got some ok pics.

I had a wander round RSPB Oldmoor today and the highlight was a pair of Kingfishers, one of which was the most confiding and iridescent individual I have ever seen. He sat in full view for several minutes within 30 yards of us. The icing on the cake was the Water Rail that casually crossed the channel immediately behind the Kingfisher. The rest of the day was fairly run of the mill though there were more Shovellor than I think I ever encountered in one location before, they seemed to be everywhere!

Wish I'd had a better camera this morning - Kingfisher on the Kingfisher Way (River Ivel, Blunham)
