is that some sort of euphemism?

parakeets are now common in the wild in many parts of the country; so much so they are now classed as a naturalised species.

We had a parakeet & a cockatiel locally for nearly a year, sadly I haven’t seen them recently. Escapees or throwaways I suppose.

I wonder if anyone knows of a U.K. birdsong recording I could buy, looking up “who” I think is singing is a help, I’d like to learn more, last week was spent at Portland bird observatory (brilliant place) & I was recommended one that you can listen to in the the car etc. & should have written it down 👵🏻 . The only one I found, didn’t include enough birds, I do know my garden friends song :-)

In London, apparently parakeets and other parrot species are in all the parks, escaped from a house or cage and now living wild? londonist.com

Yes, we get Parakeets in our garden. They are very fond of the plums and Damsons.

A single Starling in my garden! The first one since August 2014!
Had a RN Parakeet once in 2010. They haven't colonised Wales ..yet...but they are taking their time!

I like the (urban myth?) that Jimi Hendrix was responsible for London's parakeet population.

On a more mundane level, we have a local cuckoo for the first time for a few years.

I saw quite a few swifts over the Tyne at Hexham this morning, and a pristine oystercatcher probing the A69 roundabout, right next to the traffic.

I did a doubletake when I saw the macaws in Kirkby Stephen!

Manchester has an established parakeet population too now, I've seen them in Didsbury, Sale, Stretford, Chorlton...
