Could have been a blackcap. It’s hard to be certain as my memory of a sound fades quickly! I couldn’t see much of its colouring as it was against a cloudy sky and fairly high up. Also difficult to get a good idea of size.

First fledgling in the garden this morning - baby blackbird being fed by it's parents.

Chiffchaff, at last! First of the year singing on my regular daily route. That means spring has arrived for me (rather late this year).

Spring
Blackbird fledgling - amazing achievement after the freezing weather, fingers crossed for them. Assume just the one.

Only seen one so far, ferret. the nest attracted a pair of jays a few days ago, so could be only one chick escaped their attentions.
kestrel and kingfisher on this evening's walk (aren't the longer evenings great!), along with two song thrushes perched in neighbouring trees and trying to out-sing each other.

I *think* I might have heard a couple of chiffchaff on my old patch this evening just trying to ‘rev up’ but not counting them

I had one like that too DT. Could have been but not positive enough to count.... A reasonable number have been heard round here so hopefully it shouldn't be too long. Out birding in the north Trent Valley tomorrow so maybe get an away one first.
