Went looking for chiffchaffs locally again yesterday, without success, but did see fieldfares. I thought that was a decent outcome - no reason I should be seeing summer visitors when there are still winter visitors around.

DT if you like Eider you should visit the Cumbria WT South Walney reserve. Must have been over a hundred of them there on Tuesday. Not sure I’ve seen Eider in the U.K. before, definitely not in those numbers.
Also a load of red-breasted meganzer (cool punky birds :-)), goldeneyes and other common ducks and waders.

Even though there have been Chiffs, Sand Martins and a Swallow locally I've not seen or heard any migrants myself. Trails are "dead" whereas in previous years at this time there were Chiffs and Blackcaps all over the place. Female Blackcap in my garden again..but obviously one from winter.

Well done yesterday's Eider DT. I saw lots in that area last May. Lovely birds. I'll also have to follow up Flanker's tip next time I'm in the Lakes.

Hillwalking in Ardgour today, Bienn Resipol, had a White Tailed/Sea Eagle circling over our heads for a few minutes. Was magnificent the way the light from the Sun made it's tail feathers look so bright. A few ravens were about too.

I think the only place to see eider is northumberland; it is Cuddy's duck after all (and it was St. Cuthbert's day last week). But having said that, the only place I've really heard eider is on Skye; that is a real treat.
Anyway, just back from a very short run on the moor. It was alive with the sound of golden plover, although I only actually saw a couple. A few curlew and oyks too, plus the odd lapwing. The highlight was some great views of a SE owl quartering the moor quite close by.

Hawfinches again today, same place as last weekend. Only a brief view of a pair in flight. Still, hawfinches!

Walking along the beach tonight, a small flock of ringed plovers feeding on the shoreline, also first time hearing the skylarks amongst the dunes this year. Feels like spring!
