Went to coast on way home from Scotland and we were rewarded with eight wader species :) Sanderling, turnstone, redshank, dunlin, ringed plover, curlew, oyk plus a nutter of a lapwing seen mobbing a buzzard :)

Are ground-nesters vulnerable to buzzards?

There's a blackbird nest in the garden and a couple of days ago they saw off a pair of jays - totally fearless.

Singing chiffchaff on this morning's run :)

Many birds appear to be hard-wired to fear raptors. I saw a mipit in the Lake District fly up to confront a passing peregrine falcon #comeandhaveagoifyouthinkyourehardenough

Frag, might it have been a skylark?

I saw one this morning, along with various waders along the lines of DT's list plus some Brent geese, tufted ducks, shelduck and others. I was at Keyhaven and with others for a wlak so, unfortunately, I was unable to stop for more than a few seconds to view and identify many of the birds I saw.

AR - definitely not a skylark. I forgot to say it was in a tree (and skylark song is one that I do know). I’ve done a search and not found any reports of nightingales in the uk yet this year, so I’m stumped now. Anyone have any idea what has a nightingale type song?

Dunnocks have a surprisingly good singing voice, and are definitely singing now, FDNB, but maybe not a very nightingale sort of song. Sort of similar silhouette, maybe?

Yaffling green woodpecker, two dippers and a pair of grey wags but no chiff on this morning’s patch dog walk. Beautiful spring morning mind :)

Ally, sea eagle sounds fab. Nice one. Lots of ptarmigan today (5 or 6 in 2 different groups) up Cairngorm. Soooo hard to spot on snow and heather. Absolutely perfect camouflage. :-) G

Frag, from song alone I might suggest blackcap, even though it's still a little early in the year for them. But doesn't match the physical appearance.
