The female dived under the water and when she came up had a very distinct crest. But I don't know if that's just cos her hair (err... feathers?) were wet! But "clean" IDs it as Goosander for me then. It was very smart looking. :-) G

Happy, I'm in the Austrian Alps. It's the same with skiing, you can spot someone miles away from their style of skiing.

A bit of a poor Garden Bird Watch this morning (did it today because there is nasty weather forecast here for the weekend). Only ten species and low numbers--three Coal Tits were the highlight!
Going back a bit...those Snow Bunting pics were just great flanker.

That's a shame Steve. I was just thinking about moving mine from tomorrow for the same reason. Forecast here looks OK on Sunday.

Good Running birdwatch this morning. A pair of Goldeneye in their usual spot and a good selection during a short stop at the feeders (Great, Blue, Coal and Willow Tit, Chaffinch, some resplendent Bullfinches, Robin, Dunnock, Nuthatch, Pheasant, Woodpidgeon, Jackdaw and even a Buzzard overhead). Highlight though was watching the Pheasant give the Grey Squirrel, that hangs around the feeder and disturbs the smaller birds, a right kicking when it appeared and continue to threaten it until it gave up trying to approach the table :-)

Excellent - bloomin grey squirrels! I have to go find what a Willow Tit looks like now. Not sure I've ever seen one. Maybe have but didn't recognise it. Or Nuthatch? :-) G
