Song Thrush singing every day this last week. Haven't seen a Fieldfare yet..or a Hawfinch! But..a small group of Haws were seen just four miles away on Friday.

Disappointed to not see much at all in the hills on my run this morning, more than made up for by the group of long tailed tits that briefly graced the garden this afternoon, hopefully now they've found us they'll be back. Also the grey wagtail has returned to the garden although it now appears to be missing half its tail.

Purely by coincidence I was in Ilkley cemetery this afternoon. Sadly no hawfinch spotted, but we saw and heard a male dipper singing beautifully on the Wharfe

Sad story alert.
I saw a dead woodcock in the middle of Bristol by some new-build flats behind the train station in a very built-up area. I was puzzled. My friend thinks it was dropped by a Peregrine falcon.

if so, that’s rubbish for both both birds. Bizarre.

RS I read a piece recently about Peregrines having seemingly learnt to hunt birds like Woodcock by silhouetting them against street lights as they transit over urban areas at night. So your friends may well be right.
Here our regular over wintering Great Northern Diver seems to back again. With one being reported daily since Friday, though I failed to find it today on a quick visit across to the res. I did however see a Brambling and a Little Owl whilst up round Monyash yesterday.

"my" robin seems to think the house is an extension of his garden but I suppose this should not be a surprise as this is how he behaved last year; quite happy to sit on my desk while I'm working, good job the dog doesn't mind! I think they may be crumbs in my keyboard...

That would make sense Finn - a woodcock would stand out in that urban landscape against the very tall streetlights.

I've heard before about woodcock being targeted by peregrines at night, lit up by the streetlights - I think it was Cheltenham or Gloucester.
