Mind it's been bitter overnight and we have a light covering of snow.

That's a good one DT. Redwings here never come anywhere near the house.

There's a holly tree near the house which regular featured redwings a couple of years ago, munching the berries - a wonderful sight. Alas, this year there are no berries, don't know why, so I daresay we won't have redwings this winter, which is a shame (although probably good news if you're a berry).

We moved into our new house on Saturday. I’ve just taken Tussock vizsla out for a walk and less than 200 yards from the house seen and heard a singing dipper #home

I’ve still not seen a dipper either. Went looking for hawfinch on Saturday but got there too late, I think, as did parkrun first. Added merganser and grey wagtail to my list for the year, though.

Red Squirrel
I'm flat-sitting for a friend - 6 floors up with a large roof terrace. Woods one side and river t'other. Yesterday I did my circuit training on the roof terrace while watching gulls wheel above. I think I saw a great black-backed. As twilight drew in, I watched gulls and pigeons going over to the woods to roost. They didn't seem bothered by my hula-hooping and skipping, interspersed with walking lunges and mat work.
I'm going to do a few more twilight watches on my time off at Christmas. I'll be on the lookout for owls mainly.

Superb DT, that's a quality neighbour 😀 Big (several hundred) mixed flock of Redwings, Fieldfares and Starlings in the fields a km from the house as I returned from a trip out to Roaches today. Stopped to have a good look and a Redwing and a Fieldfare came and perched about 5 feet from the van. Excellent views of both their markings. Then got home to find the GSW drumming away! They normally wait until late January/February??

Very special neighbour DT.
I saw a pair of busy wee brownish birds on rocks at Portland Bill yesterday, similar to but not, a small skylark. On the way home, 2 more on Chesil Beach so looked in at the wildlife trust visitor centre at the days list, & Id been watching my first meadow pipits - probably sharing the same lunch as swarms of small black insects kept landing on my snack.
