becca7, great to see a brambling. I would have thought they would all have cleared off to northern climes for the summer long ago. We get them occasionally in winter on our garden feeders here in Norwich. Before they started turning up in our garden, I'd never got a clear view of one in this country (although I've seen lots of them in Norway in summer). They're easy to overlook among chaffinches. In fact, the first time I spotted one on our feeder, it was actually when I was looking back at some photos I'd been taking of chaffinches in the snow, and I noticed that the bird in the photo was in fact a brambling!

great list there becca..that 200 mark must be on the cards for the year the way you're going. Quite late for Brambling too and I've not seen one this last twelve months at all! As for Corn Bunting not seen one since 1965!
Quiet morning along my running route this morning --in fact quite dull.

steve45, don't know where you live, but over in East Anglia there are certainly corn buntings about, although they're not common. I've seen them a few times in north Norfolk, and in north Herts, and saw one a year or so back on a wire a couple of miles outside Cambridge as I was running in from the south. As with a lot of birds, it helps if you get to know the song, because otherwise they're easy to miss.

Just saw a goldcrest two feet from my face, under our eaves by the back door! Looked shocked then flew away.

Some great spots going on at the moment. Nothing that special for me. Saw the black tailed godwits again. Of more interest has been watching the fledgling blackbirds. Two surviving at the moment and both a good size and able to fly short distances, top parents

Also saw two Robins this morning, first time in our garden, male seemed to be feeding female I think.

bonners, have a look into the migration of black tail godwits and (in common with many other wading birds) you'll see that they re very special birds ;-) They are right up their with my favourite dippers, swifts, little owls etc

Sorry I don't come on here enough to know if this is old news but a cuckoo was calling in the woods yesterday :-)
I was disappointed we didn't hear any when we were in Portugal the week before Easter because we heard several when we were there 2 years ago - but then I realised we'd been a week or two earlier in 2015, so they'd probably already flown on northwards.
I worry every year until I hear them :-)

Young Pheasant (i presume) in my garden today, has no tail so i presume it must have walked under the fence or can they fly without a tail?

Cheers DT, forgot to say went on nature walk with BTO guy yesterday, local to the area and the godwits been around all winter apparently this year, for some reason staying around. I would never have noticed them in winter as apparently their markings are far more pronounced now. Was a fascinating walk all told, amazing work they do and really interesting with loads of information on the various waders which is his survey.
