Scattered feathers in my garden this morning, I suspect likewise that the local sparrowhawk had a big breakfast

HowFar?
Plenty of grasshopper warbler sounds coming from the fields on my cycle down to the river Drowes this morning. I saw the usual dippers and grey wagtails at the river. A mink poked its nose out between some rushes on the far bank at one point and a red squirrel ran along the road in front of me for several yards on the cycle home.

Fenland (Fenners) Runner
Last few mornings I've been trying to keep count of the number of each species of bird.

And the large quantities are either Blackbirds or (horrid) Pigeons.

Anyone else seeing more song thrushes than usual these days? I've been seeing lots more, which is great, I think they're excellent birds and their numbers have dropped badly in the last couple of decades. Not sure where there's any statistical significance to my observations or just chance. Just wondering whether the mild winter might have led to a much higher survival rate or something like that.

Song and mistle thrush numbers high around here, with wren and goldfinch doing well too. Blackcap and chiffchaff everywhere, but I'm struggling with willow warbler

I saw a young rook being fed by a parent in a field today and what looked very much like a family group of starling yesterday. Failed breeding waders can re-appear in July #notlongtillautumn

Yes, DT, loads of blackcaps and chiffchaffs here too, and I've seen more wrens than usual as well now you mention it. Another beneficiary of a mild winter? But no willow warblers yet on my normal run, which is disappointing.

Wren, titmice, kingfisher, owls, goldcrest all benefit from mild winters

Nope J23...but have been seeing more Mistle Thrushes.

"Falls" of various warblers locally (Cardiff) over the last couple of days---Sedge, Reed, Common Whitethroat, more Willows than usual and many many more Blackcaps.

Looks like my willow warblers have got lost on the way home and have flown too far west! No whitethroats here yet either, which is surprising.
