Saw a bat a couple of nights ago, not the first of the year though as there was one flying around in early January.

Lovely morning at Attenborough Nature reserve, if you were in the right place at the right time unlike me. Missed Red Kite, Whimbrel, Grasshopper Warbler and Bearded Tit. At least the Cetti's make me smile.

Just returned from Lanzarote, where the birds are fairly scarce. Most common where i was in Playa Blanca were Collared Doves, Yellow-Legged Gulls and Spanish Sparrows who made my Dunnocks seem celibate. Good spots were 3 Egyptian Vultures, Southern Grey Shrike (their Great Grey subspecies), Canary and the common Berthelot's Pipit and Cory's Shearwater. Also saw Swift and Martin (Sand and House) though not sure what exact kind they were, Pheasant, Linnet, Kestrel, Little Egret, Buzzard and LBB Gull. If you haven't been it's a great place, but you need a car to get to the best bird spots for the Houbara Bustard, Stone Curlew and Cream Coloured Courser.

Whimbrel here too today. Small flock on my evening run tonight. Nicely presented themselves on the nearest island to home :-)

ff, if you sacrificed the hills of the national parks for the flatlands of Cambridgeshite you'd see a yellowhammer on most runs, along with green woodpeckers, red kite etc.

Personally I'd take the hills every time.

Lol! Flanker. As much as I love seeing Yellowhammers I think the hills will always come first :-)

Yellowhammers are a very uncommon site for me around the fields and trails of Cardiff.
Lesser Whitethroat singing this morning, two Cetti's, several Willow Warblers (where they were absent in recent years).
Great list there Chrisity..I'm envious!
