Thanks NE - I suspect the long way round might be preferable for my wife. Presumably follow Cumbria Way, then double back at FB over Stake Beck? Head for Brown Crag, then N over Bull Crag? Or is that a bit boggy? We've done High Raise, but not Ullscarf, so that's an optional extra. No updates from here, but hopefully that will all change in August

You probably need to head further south than that. I'd head as far as the top of Stake Pass and then contour back in a generally NE (see what I did there?) direction, cutting below Low White Stones and the W of Long Crag. You'd pick the trod up easily that heads towards Sgt's.

Sometimes BBC News articles just need a decent proof reader, or maybe ENW have been digging very deep holes near Pooley Bridge?

"An electricity firm has been praised for removing unsightly overhead power lines in a Lake District village.

So far Electricity North West has spent £290,000 burying power lines and electricity poles at Pooley Bridge."

5 more Wainwrights bagged (2nd round) on the Friday before the Lakeland 50, now onto 53.

First hill was a Birkett, Kitty Fell.
Then Wetherlam, Swirl How, Brim Fell, Coniston Old Man and a complete gem, Dow Crag.
Then a couple of Nuttalls, on the way back to Walna Scar Pass, Buck Pike and Brown Pike.

- Got that wrong, I did a third Nuttall. Black Sails between Wetherlam and Swirl How.

Afternoon all, hubby and I are actively looking at camping in the Lake District in 2023 - May half term or August time.

I need your help pin pointing where good campsites are that have decent shower blocks and possibly places that rent out fridges or places where we could put fresh food in a fridge (if that exists up there.)

We would also have our lovely two children so we can introduce them to the Lake District and to gentle hiking (the youngest would be 4 next year)

:-)

National Trust sites have showers, toilets and freezers for ice blocks. We’ve found that having a regular rotation of ice blocks in a cool box helps keep things fresh.

The Coniston one doesn’t have a shop.
A couple of them have varying levels of electric hook up available.

Some YHA do camping/pods. This can include access to facilities in the hostel.

Thanks Dave. Had a at a few YHA places and the national trust places. Starting to narrow down and get a few ideas.

When you say a "shop".. does that mean they will take your ice packs and freeze them for you when needed?
