I had my first ever trip to the Lakes last weekend. Might have to go back again one day...

If you're interested in Skiddaw House, you might consider tracking down a copy of "The Loneliest House in England", it's a pretty obscure book but interesting if you like that sort of thing. I went to the book's launch (by accident - I was passing Skiddaw House at the time and went in for flapjack) and that's how I ended up with a copy :-)

I was up there the other day with a well-known fellrunner and he told me that Gavin Bland owns Skiddaw House as well as a good deal of the surrounding land, including Sale How and Great Calva. It seems odd that an individual would own well-known fells such as these, but I guess someone has to own them!

p.s. Gavin Bland has been "showcased" in the last couple of editions of The Fellrunner. He doesn't come across as a wealthy landowner

Looks as if this is the freehold for sale. I wonder if the hostel will continue?

It would be a real shame if it ended up as some rich person's occasional weekend retreat, but the rewards as a hostel wouldn't pay back the investment at that price and there isn't enough land to sell off to recoup.
I can't see it staying as a hostel - unless my lottery numbers come up

You wouldn't have needed to be a wealthy landowner to have acquired the Skiddaw house and lands/mountains 50-100 years ago - or longer? I'm guessing it's old family land?

It was last sold in 2015 for 1.8 million. Presumably with more land than current offer?
