Huge staff shortages here too. Just had an email from the bakery. Only open two half days a werk because of staff shortages. In this case it is Covid: everyone is sat at home self isolating because of the "pingdemic". My favourite coffee and lunch place in Hay still closed because of that too. Has been several weeks now.

Just got back from the perfect anniversary treat for my much better half and myself. Doing a very "posh" thing down in Cartmel, but couldn't resist the lure of the Lakes. Monday up Old Man of Coniston (on what seemed to be flying ant day on the whole of the hill, especially the cairns) and round over Dow Crag to tick off a "well known" hill that we'd not been up before. Busy but not egregiously so, especially once we'd passed the top of the Old Man.
Tuesday stayed more local around Cartmel through the Grange and back. Yesterday a somewhat slower average pace as we set off only at 1:30pm having parked up at Wrynose to walk Wetside Edge, Great Carrs, Swirl How, Weatherlam and then back up to Wetside Edge from the valley floor. Suckered into believing there was a distinct footpath from just after the scrambling down from Weatherlam down to the bridge across the beck when in fact it exists only in the OS's minds. Very tired legs!
But it did mean that about 6:40 last night we were overlooking the Hardknott Pass and the stream below. Can't really complain about that view.

Larks, I know what you mean about Wetherlam - every time I got up there it seems to be via a different route and I'm convinced there is no single path. I was once told that part of the problem is that there are several old miners' paths that criss-cross the side of the fell and offer a number of options, but that's poor consolation. In heavy bracken and when wet, Wetherlam can be horrible.

NE, I think that's the case for a lot of the Coniston massif. With all the old paths, rail and tram tracks.
But in larks' case, if that's the drop off I'm thinking off, isn't just marked as a RoW, and not a path?
A while ago I did similar coming up to Swirl How from Seathwaite Tarn - didn't look closely enough at the map and assumed there'd be some sort of track under the dashed green line. There wasn't, and I wasn't very popular as it was rather sheer in places! Probably a good thing it was dark
Great photo.
