We’ve been in the Peaks this week. Sun / Mon were horrible for me*, Castleton was like a scene from Viz on Sunday afternoon. But the rest of the week has been fine. We walked back in to Edale car park at around 2pm today and there were still spaces.

It’s still no Lakes though, is it?

*who am I to judge what’s wrong / right? I should perhaps be celebrating how many people were out enjoying the Peak.

The Peak is no different to the Lakes or Dales. If you go to the honeypots it’ll be busy especially at BH weekends. If you know where to go it’s not difficult to avoid the masses

WW I'm certainly not celebrating how many people have been out enjoying the Peak! I ran through Chatsworth on Tuesday evening and was appalled at the amount of litter by the river (bizzarly some people seemed to have left their's in neat piles but clearly expected someone else to come along and tidy up?) and I ended up bawling out a young 'lady' who thought it was an entertaining game when pissed to chase sheep and lambs. Her behaviour was such that if she'd been a dog I'd have been well within my rights to shoot her!

And as for some of the driving, parking, use of BBQs and general behaviour I've witnessed this week the less said the better. The behaviour of many visitors to places like the Lakes and the Peaks at the moment makes me completely ashamed of the people who call this country home. A huge number of them have absolutely no respect for it and just view it as a commodity to use and abuse in a way that suits their personal needs!

We didn't have to walk far up towards Jenkin Crag to have Ambleside to ourselves today even though the town was heaving.

It’s half term busy in South Lakes, but much better than the weekend. I took family up Gowbarrow yesterday from Aira Force carpark. I really love that walk...just a bit sloggy from the top of the waterfall to the summit, but otherwise it’s a stunner ..especially the return along the contours up above the lake...wonderful views along Ullswater...and yesterday the weather was perfect.
