NE, I think we suffer disproportionatley when people are confined to only day trips. There is just such a large population within an hour of the Peak District. It requires relatively little effort to get here and there are plenty of McDs close to hand that you can collect your picnic (and subsequent litter) up from on the way here!

We seem relatively lucky in the New Forest - although we may get a similar influx of visitors & mess, they all seem to stay with 100 yds of the car parks. Or on the main cycle/shale paths. Get off-piste and it's still empty.

FF - that makes sense. Coniston was really quiet, we were thinking that the casual visitor - those for whom the Lakes are the pubs and cafes - won't want to visit yet. Interestingly, the Bluebird cafe was open and they were renting out small boats/canoes.

Um, that is what happens here in the Black Mountains! Never see anyone really, hence decided am in Wales and break out ;)

FF, yes it has been a serious mess! I was turned away from Hereford by the police as it is 24 miles away and not local, yet my nearest supermarket in England is there... I have a Welsh registered car, so I am better off breaking the rules, stay local and shop in Wales... Am between Hay and Aber, right on the border.

It caused huge issues last year, as they closed Black Hill, which is in the Black Mountains, but not in the Brecon Beacons National Park or in Wales... the farmers with hill grazing cut the gates into pieces, but left the locks in place... as the gates were theirs but the locks belonged to the authorities who decided to lock them out from attending to their sheep and horses.

Hopefully we’ll remember the bin bags and how to use them.

I do think Coniston is far enough out of the way to remain quiet. The only time I’ve seen it really busy is 50/100 weekend and the main tourist route up the Old Man between 10:00 and 16:00. It’s usually a quiet village after them.

I walked a couple of wainwrights today .. Knott and Great Calva. Very quiet, but I guess those fells are never busy. My first time descending along Grainsgill beck to the old mine. What a lovely path.. I think it’s the Cumbria Way, but I’m surprised it’s not a stony path if that’s correct.

Oh wow, what a lovely day :)

I'm sulking and feeling very jealous of all the unofficial Lakeland 50/100 recces being posted on Facebook today.

Yeh.. that’s a real shame you can’t get over here. Have you got any training time booked in Cumbria?
