Late afternoon / early evening run over Catbells in glorious sunshine, to be met on the way back by a rather curious sight! Bloke in a wet suit complete with tow float on a Brompton folding bike navigating a kissing gate on the footpath through Fawe Park, asked "That's Catbells isn't it?" and headed off that way!! Not sure if he was planning to ride up or just using it as a landmark??

Nah, NE and Joss wouldn't have to ask whether they were looking at Catbells. Did he tell you he'd been there in 1986? If so, he was my FiL's ghost looking for his intended final resting place. (From the way he used to complain about the weather, I think his remains are going to have a miserable eternity on Catbells.)

Hmm. Sounds FGR-ish. I did have some registrations for yesterday, maybe blokey was going to swim across DW with a contender as of course Catbells is the final top on an ACW round.

Could have been NE. It was the unusual sight of the Brompton that stunned me, used to mountain bikes along there but a commuter bike was a first!!

Perhaps it was someone who hadn't managed to get a place in yesterday's Helvellyn Triathlon :).

There have been a few CW attempts. Tim Mosedale did one in 2016 as he wanted a comparison with the conventional ACW route, however that's where it stayed until a week or so back. A lad from Stainland had a go and completed in just over 18 hours, also there was a failed CW attempt over the weekend.
FWIW the consensus is that CW makes it harder in terms of time on the fell but possibly is the way to do it if you are not a strong swimmer. A certain ex-chairperson of the FRA will be having a (slow) go at a CW round shortly, I will let you know how they get on.
p.s. We saw all the taped markers on the Helvellyn summit on Sunday morning and were confused as to what was going on, then John realised what was planned for next day. Quite a sad moment for me, the Helvellyn Tri was the last time I saw a guy I knew reasonably well before he took his own life and it brought the moment flooding back

Thanks NE. I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion the the Frog is going on my list of ‘would loved to have tried but not really for me’ events along with the PPP CX. The former chair has been doing a lot of swimming and I guess will get round. They don’t know what DNF means
Sunday sounds sad. I lost a friend like that and in my case it’s certain music that’s the trigger
