Your uncle is Mike Hartley? A true legend.
By American standards John Kelly is a pretty modest individual, if your uncle is unhappy with that particular term I'm sure John would comply in not using it.

yep NE, haven't seen him since Xmas though. Damn virus. Hope to get in a few tops with him when we're up in the Lakes in August though.
There's no probs - we found out from John direct when he asked for Mike's permission to use the name. Very good of John, actually. Let's hope that he can give it a good run. It's been much tougher to watch some of the less modest attempts of recent years: lots of social media hype before, very little after.

I hope he has a tracker
The three rounds + cycling attempt - hope he doesn't set a time for the cycling and gets a bit more sleep earlier on this time!

Rosehip if you're still looking for a campsite I'm led to believe that the NT site in Langdale is taking bookings from campers and will be opening it's toilets etc. Not sure about the other NT sites.
WW, what NE says. An awesome athlete across a variety of terrains, something that some of the more modest contenders would do well to understand before they start shouting off on social media. It's telling that one of the more realistic attempts on the PW in recent years was, discussed in advance with your uncle to iron out the issues that have arisen with the realignment of the PW over the years since the record was set, never mentioned on social media and and when it was thwarted by the weather fairly early on the half-a-dozen folk present at the time had a cup of tea and some shared chips before heading home. At the time I don't think as many as 20 people even knew it was happening. John's attempt will no doubt receive a little more publicity than that but it's good to hear that Mike was approached first. It will be interesting to watch how John goes, he is clearly a very tough and capable athlete but so much will depend on the weather and the state of the ground, I was told by a first hand witness that when the record was set it was so dry that they were kicking up clouds of peat dust on Kinder.

FF - yes, it's a deep regret that I was a dis-interested teenager at the time but the pictures show just how hot and dry it was. Fingers crossed for John (and any other future challengers, of course).
Roll on August, I'm so envious of you guys spending so much more time than me in the hills!
