I've given up the idea on going anywhere this year... I enjoyed my visit to the Lakes last year when my company's group did their annual fundraising walk around Derwentwater from Keswick (end of May, Friday before the Bank Holiday weekend). We lucked out with the weather that day, as it poured with rain on the Saturday.

We're debating booking somewhere Ambleside/Windemere way in October when we actually have time off together for a change but will be waiting a good while longer yet before commiting to anything to see how everything is going and if there isn't adequate normailty/reduced risk, we'll just forego time away this year.

Had to forego our walking week in the Lakes a couple of weeks ago. Still had a week's holiday so did some walking based on day-trips from home, but it's not the same Have booked a week in October instead - hopefully stuff will be back to some sort of normal by then, but who knows?

We had a nice drive around the Surrey hills on Saturday morning...before everyone else got up. Nice and quiet...and dropped in at the farm shop in Abinger Hammer.

The cottage we're staying in was booked before lockdown, I'm really looking forward to seeing the fells and a different view - it'll be mainly Back O Skidda though - so hopefully as low on people as it usually is.

for those who are questioning whether or not to visit in the near future what might put you off? Are you concerned about over-crowding spoiling your enjoyment of the area, lack of facilities being open, COVID risk, or something else?
We're heading up in early August and I just can't wait to get away for what feels like the 1st time in forever. Thinking about what to do (in the UK) in October too given that I don't feel like I really want to run the risk of getting on a plane anywhere this year.

If I were on my own and in the tent I'd have no qualms to drive up on the 4th and stay all summer With mum in tow, it's balancing her doing what she enjoys - which is mainly finding the best place for tea and cakes after a very short walk somewhere easy - and keeping her safe.

thanks G. I totally understand.
in other news, I literally just heard that John Kelly is going to have a pop at my uncle's Pennine Way record in July and then about a month later attempt the 3 consecutive rounds, cycling between in an event that he has asked to be called the 'Hartley Slam'. Odd to see the achievements of a very modest man Americanized like that!
