I still think the wording in the law will say about travel being necessary/reasonable. Although I’m not in work till Wednesday and won’t be checking till then. So although travel is allowed, it will potentially still have to be necessary. But the Police will get their own guidance and dickheads will still travel if they want to, as has already been shown up and down the country. |

1.7 Are there restrictions on how far I can travel for my exercise or outdoor activity? No. You can travel to outdoor open space irrespective of distance. You shouldn’t travel with someone from outside your household unless you can practise social distancing - for example by cycling. Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay at another home is not allowed. |

The YD approach (https://www.yorkshiredales.org.uk/the-yorkshire-dales-national-park-authority-asks-everyone-to-show-respect/) seems sensible given the D Raab line: "you can go wherever you want in England" As soon as he said that, it's irrelevant what the police/Lake District Authority/Peak District etc say. People will go. If they leave all the car parks shut by the weekend, then I expect lots of damaged verges, fields etc beyond the normal laybys as idiots will park anywhere. |

(the same can be said for parks, like Roundhay here - although the damage side is mitigated by the fact that there are residential streets nearby - Leeds shut all the car parks, but people have still been driving to the park and parking nearby - although admittedly in not as great numbers as normal - which is when the idiotic parking usually comes out...)

Looks like it Dave. I believe some Nt houses have already opened up and are serving takeaway/eat outdoors at their cafes ( What that in a ChrisHB blog?) I may find myself in the vicinity of Cumbria in the next 10 days or so for essential student moving business. I'm not sure how easy I will find it not to at least drive the scenic route from Penrith to Carlisle - in fact my car will probably head to Keswick all by itself. I promise not to go fell walking, but can't promise not to stand in Crow Park and enjoy the view - is that too terrible? |

It's tempting (of course it is), but we're going to stay away and not add to the burden. If Cumbria and its inhabitants don't want visitors yet, that's good enough for me. The Dales is on my doorstep and I can find plenty to keep me occupied there.

FR your understanding is absolutely correct about what the legal situation is and what central government is encouraging. However, in the Lakes and the Peak District the local powers have a different view and are doing their level best to discourage visitors. I suspect those of us fortunate enough to live in such places are going to get caught in the middle.
