That's the principle of Hadd isn't it? Train more proportion down in the lower % effort, to build greater aerobic base, on which limited, targeted higher effort is built? Why is the thread called FVH? Good club, from what I have heard? :-)G

Hi hg, it's similar to what's on the hadd and heart rate threads but it's something I've been boring everyone with at fvh when I occasionaly meet up for a run. Defo be running more with them soon as the marathon training starts now!

You train to hr? I'm on week 12 and am enjoying doing following the hadd approach. Seems to be working so I'll be sticking with it over ghe next few months.

The other reason for the fvh thread was because all the training logs get filled with randomness that others must see to believe :)

Oh, I see, FVH title is for you and your club mates to gather here. Sorry. Gotcha. That makes sense. It's a first though, isn't it? We've got regional threads and nonsense threads and all sorts, but I've never seen a "club only" thread! Good idea though!

I'll leave you lot to it - I don't do HR training. Think it sounds interesting but two objections for my personal use: 1. I already know when I'm going hard or easy and 2. I think it would be a bit restrictive - if I want to slog up a hill blowing out my wotsit, then I will. But mostly I go mega slow and easy all the time, which is kinda Hadd anyway!! Best of luck FVHers! :-)G

tizer, sounds good. dont know much about the heart rate stuff. i gues being an ex sprinter, i am used to training hard all the time, i am kinda still at that stage, where the 5-6 milers are taken kinda hard when i want to. going back to track works every so often is ace as i get to go hard like i used to in the good ol days. totally love the track, gutted it was covered with ice tonight tho. i'll see how my training goes for the next year, need to start uping my pace for the longer runs if i want to see an improvement again this year like i saw last year.

I reckon loads of the miles I've run this year were run at too fast a pace and never actually got me much fitter. The good thing about any sort of hr training is that you can actually see yourself getting faster for the same hr. That's why I like it.

Reckon you'll be down at 2.45 marathon in 2010 without too many problems anyway but the hr monitor might help you up your mileage while you are training for it

Do FVH ever use the 800m track around the Victoria Park oot back? I reckon the Cooncil should put a couple of lanes of synthetic surface around it (though that's probably scheduled in for the next occasion Hell (as opposed to say, Hallglen) freezes over).

i have never trained that way either using my heartrate, tizer i think you are going to have to start taking us for a training session one day a week.if it makes me faster then that will do me as next year i want to get pbs in every distance and this type of training really interests me.i have a heart rate monitor in the house so i will have to start using it.i will have a chat to you about it later if you are on.
