Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I don't think either of the clubs I'm in have a concept of standards. Lots of races in on and off road champs and a parkrun series inviter including volunteering and things. But no standards. :-) G

Interestingly, my club have today announced "...Everything stems from percentages of age-cat World Records, so thanks to super-shoes, we'd risk having a very short Presentation Night, unless we adapted some of the percentages - as has always been the case previously.
The new Club Standards are attached and apply immediately (any Standards claimed already this year would still have been standards aswell anyway!😅 )
Depending on the distance/standard, you might see some small changes for better or worse but only by small margins."

I had no idea this was in the pipeline. It means that my new bronze target for 5k is 23.58 and I ran 23.55 at Southsea parkrun in January. It won't count as the new times have started 2 days ago but I'm really pleased it makes the targets more achievable for more people.

We’ve been charged with selecting a series of local races for club members to enter this year.

Anyone any ideas how to score them other than Wava? Overall placing? Age category placing? Gender placing?

My 2nd claim club does a good series, details here:

northderbyshirerc.co.uk

The way the baseline time for each runner is worked out is based on a recent best time for 5K (as most people do that distance) - so mine for this year will be 23.30ish, rather than base it on my actual PB which is 20.45 (from the olden days) or my best time from last year which was 22.58 - they didn't use that one because it's on a course that is point to point and slightly downhill overall.

Last year I submitted my best 5K time of the year before which was 24.10.

If you need any help @Ally C give me a shout, I'm sure the club will help with any questions.

Our club takes the best 5k time from the previous year then splits members into divisions of similar runners. We then have a GP series of 8 races throughout the year across various distances (only best 6 races count), plus best parkrun and best mara times. The winner of each division in each races gets 20 points, second 19 etc and because you're really only racing against people of your level there's no need to take into account age or gender.

Ta @GordonG

Our races will be at the most 10k I reckon. The one half last year never drew much interest. Nae idea why.

About This Thread

I've got a 1st claim club and a 2nd claim club.

For me, as a 48 year male, to get a bronze 5K standard, I would need the following times:

Clowne RC: 23.26 (48 male)

North Derbyshire RC: 20:38 (45-49 category)

I was wondering if anyone who's in a club has a similar club standard award and what your time would have to be for a 48 year male?
