Mind you, if LD has had a mortgage since 1978, she was probably only paying £13.57 a month.
I took out my first mortgage in 1987 and the monthly payment (at 11% ) was about £145. Plus the endowment premium (remember them?)

I think I paid about £100 a month when I started (1982-ish) Repayment type, bank staff mortgage!
The youngsters will all laugh at us now.

Indeed... though whether they'll laugh because of how little we were paying each month, or how high the interest rates were, is anyone's guess. The second mortgage I took out in 1989 was at 13.5%.

Nice work LD. I need new glasses, upgrading from reading to full time. Off for breakfast at Toby Carvery with the family.

Not exactly exciting, but bizarre. Was about to leave the house this morning when I looked out of the window and saw a dead thrush (apparently) lying in the middle of the patio. Didn't look mauled at all, but legs were sticking out stiffly and no sign of movement. Couldn't stop to investigate, so went out intending to deal with it later.
But later, no sign. No feathers, no blood. Possibly it had flown full tilt against the window and knocked itself out, and later recovered.
If so it was lucky, as there are lots of cats in the neighbourhood.
