Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I am at the Bay of Fundy, where the high tide is 13.5m above low tide. I find this curiously exciting!

Wow. To put it into context that's more than twice the height of a winning pole vault

Is that some kind of a world record, 57.5?

They claim to have the highest tides in the world, I have no reason to disagree!

The Channel Islands claim to have the longest; that is, the greatest (horizontal) distance between high and low tides.

I remember being in Guernsey and they have 40' tides.

At extreme low tide it looks as though you could actually walk from Herm to Guernsey; but apparently there is one deep channel in the middle, so you couldn't.
