A sub 2 marathon will only have credibility if it's achieved in a genuine environment without the use of artificial enhancements like those stated in the article.

It's bollocks. Why not just let things evolve naturally. |

I've honestly not wasted any time reading about it. I know times don't come down that fast legitimately.

Of course what it does do is deprive us of a great race *rolls eyes*

Bekele is going after the WR in Dubai in a couple of weeks which is interesting given he's also doing London.

What saddens me is that three athletes in the prime of their careers have agreed to take a year out to be lab rats. I'm sure they are being richly rewarded for what they are doing but it will sully their reputations in the long run. Given Nike's association with the Oregon Project, questions will be asked about how far are they prepared to go, by fair means or foul.

"Given Nike's association with the Oregon Project, questions will be asked about how far are they prepared to go, by fair means or foul." Don't see this tbh. It's a pretty big leap given we know it's not legitimate anyway. Agree about the first bit though. Pretty annoying. As Letsrun would say, what about the sport! |

news.nike.com I was really looking forward to Kipchoge v Bekele in London. Bekele might have had Kipchoge's number on the track but since moving up, Kipchoge has proved to be the better marathon runner. We're being deprived of an epic battle between two of the great distance runners at the top of their games for the sake of 'science'. A stage managed time trial that will prove nothing unless one of the athletes can take at a huge chunk off the current WR at the very least (sub 2:02). Looking at the three athletes involved, why are Tadese and Desisa even there? Pacemakers for Kipchoge? He's the only one capable of getting close imho. |

You're talking like they are going to run at Berlin and set a proper world record. It's all bollocks as I said before, none of them are capable of getting close in legitimate circumstances. You don't improve world records by minutes at elite level and the projects don't deserve any attention. In non legitimate circumstances Tadese has the WR for half marathon although hasn't run that fast before and has the best ever measured economy and Desisa has run fast marathons. It's still all BS though. |
