Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

With the way my mam can be now I expect to have challenges should she become more reliant in future. She has a habit of saying I shout at her when I say something she doesn’t want to hear.

I used to be paranoid but plenty of people have said I don’t shout it’s just she doesn’t like what I’m saying.

It’s hard work and I guess a feeling of helplessness too, our lives do feel busier than when my mam was doing the support for her mam. My mam never worked full time and by time my nana needed extra care my mam worked about 6hrs a week cleaning at the church for some extra spending money.

Hugs to you all who need it.

MiL fell this morning. We heard of it about 8:30 - sister-i-l and her OH were on the way to potentially help her up. Mrs TR went over as well and by midday MiL was in an ambulance with Mrs TR and her sister in the way to A&E. A ct scan and other tests later they're still at the hospital waiting for a bed for MiL. I'll learn more when Mrs TR gets home (hopefully before our dental appointment at 9:40 in the morning!)

Although I’m not ready to share details of my dad’s antics, this thread has been very helpful in so much as giving reassurance that his bad behaviour is fairly normal for an elderly man in cognitive decline. Thank you all.

About This Thread

I thought I'd start a thread, as lots of us have elderly folks that we worry about/care for.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
